DC Collectibles showcases Wonder Woman, Bombshells at San Diego Comic-Con
DC Collectibles showcased new Wonder Woman figures, toys and collectibles during an exclusive press event during Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con. The showcase coincides with the 75th anniversary of the star-spangled heroine.
Among the featured pieces was a new 7-inch Art of War statue created by all-star, all-female creative team based on the artwork by Amanda Conner. The line, which launched in 2013, aims to bring the work of the greatest Wonder Woman artists to life in a three-dimensional format. Past artists featured have included Jim Lee, George Perez, Adam Hughes, Tony Daniel, Clif Chiang and Yanik Paquette, This newest piece was sculpted by Karen Calico, painted by Kim Dullahan and was art directed by Janice Walker from DC Creative Services.
To celebrate the anniversary, DC also brought along select pieces from previous lines including a tiara/bracelet prop set and a Gotham City Garage statue featuring the Amazonian princess in biker gear. The motorcycle design even gives a nod to Wonder Woman’s invisible jet in the wheel design. The Gotham City Garage piece retails for $325.
A new statue (as in delivered 15 minutes before the event new!) features Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) from next year’s “Wonder Woman” release. The statue doesn’t have a set release date yet.
Another highlight was the “Batman v. Superman Dawn of Justice” Wonder Woman Holystone Statue from Prime 1 Studio, which is planned for a Summer 2017 release. The statue is an amazing likes of current Wonder Woman Gal Galoot complete with battle armor and measure approximately 39 inches tall. It is limited to to 1000 pieces at will retail for $2099.
DC Collectibles also offered a sneak peek of upcoming releases including an amazing interpretation of the Joker from the infamous “The Killing Joke” cover, which featured original artwork by Brian Bolland.
Kevin Kiniry, Vice President Creative Services DC Entertainment, said DC contacted Bolland to bring his artwork to life. The 1/6 scale (approximately 12-inch) statue is part of the Designer series featuring classic DC characters. French sculptor David Girard helped bring the statue to life. The piece is planned for a July 2017 release and estimated retail is $130-$150.
