‘OUAT’: Captain Hook, True Love, Prince Charming and a blossoming bromance
As the larger-than-life building wraps by Petco Park at San Diego Comic-Con proclaimed: “Long Live the Queen!”
Season 6 of “Once Upon A Time” will feature the return of the Evil Queen as Lana Parrilla plays dual roles — as the queen and Regina Miller. At the end of Season 5, Regina seemingly separated herself from the dark part of her personality. Unbeknownst to her, and the rest of Storybrooke’s residents, crushing the Evil Queen’s heart didn’t work and she’s free and full of vengeance.
We sat down with Josh Dallas (Prince Charming) and Colin O’Donoghue in the Comic-Con press room to hear what’s next for them this year.
Dallas said the return of the queen is like “deja vu.”
“The evil queen is back and she’s back with a vengeance and she’s full on evil,” he said.
Much like the basis of the show — the Evil Queen going after Snow White and wanting her dead — Dallas said that’s definitely going to be the case again and in turn, that means the queen will also be going after Charming.
“She’s going after everybody. She’s taking no prisoners,” he said.
The queen will also be mentally manipulating Storybrooke residents and turning everyone inside of themselves, he said.
In addition to the Evil Queen, O’Donoghue said Hyde is in town ready to “rough things up as well” and that the characters will have to figure out how to deal with him.
Dallas quipped that with all the mayhem in town, he that he didn’t know why anyone of them bought real estate in Storybrooke.
“It’s the worst town in America!” he joked.
Since this season will stay focused in Storybrooke, O’Donoghue said characters will be forced to look in deep at who they are more so than any other season.
Last season, Emma opened up emotionally and finally told Hook she loved him. When asked how their relationship would evolve in Season 6, O’Donoghue said like past seasons, it was complicated.
“We know after the end of last season that it’s True Love … Now we have to figure out how they move forward knowing that. True Love is such a rare thing and such a huge part of the show. And also, the Evil Queen is back and she’s going to be gunning for Snow and Emma, so who knows how that’s going to affect things, it could be complicated,” O’Donoghue said.
This season will delve into more of Hook’s past and secrets that O’Donoghue says will test his relationships. It will force him to reflect on who he is now and whether he can forgive himself.
He said the cast is lucky that each episode from week to week is very different and that the relationships among the core characters are complex and keep the show fresh.
O’Donoghue and Dallas also said viewers will see a more meaningful relationship grow between Hook and Charming.
“The bromance is back on and blossoming,” Dallas said.
Season 6 of “Once Upon A Time” returns at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 on ABC.
