Kong: Skull Island is the origin story we want to see!
Over the past few weeks, audiences were treated to the trailer for “Kong: Skull Island.” The movie isn’t slated for release until March 10, 2017 in the US, but is already garnering praise from moviegoers as the next movie worth dropping $40 to see in theaters.
While the tale of King Kong has been told many times over, often with horribly execrable results, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has made what looks like an alluring saga of the origins of King Kong. Not only is the setting perfectly mesmerizing (filmed on location in Oxenford, Queensland, Australia), the culminating cast is an accomplished group of stars that each bring something distinctive to the screen.
Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly are all fan favorites, particularly of a certain crowd of fans who fall into the target audience of film. Hiddleston, Jackson and Reilly have all been in Marvel movies over the past few years and Larson is now pegged to play “Captain Marvel” in the anticipated action film. Goodman has played in “Transformer: Age of Extinction” and “10 Cloverfield Lane,” But let’s not forget that Goodman and Larson have both been a part of the beloved geek comedy, “Community.”
The budget is an astounding $190M, so Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are banking that this film will not only attract audiences, but cause them to see more than once, and see it in IMAX and IMAX 3-D.
Jackson’s character is a soldier, on an mission to accompany a survey crew as they are scheduled to quickly go in-and-out of a jungle excursion. Goodman is on a 30 year mission to prove that “monsters exist.” Larson and Hiddleston are our central characters.
The film has the same production team “Godzilla.” In the trailer, we get a sense for the size of King Kong. His face alone is nearly twice the size of a human being.
