Shakeup at SNL leaves ‘Not Ready For Primetime’ 2 players short
The news is officially out that 2 of the main cast members from “SNL” won’t be returning for season 42. “Saturday Night Live” has had a history of preseason cuts, but with an already thin roster, they’ve cut 2 of the ‘Not Ready For Primetime Players’ that fans at least knew. Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah were not only regulars, they were character-rich performers.
Both Killam and Pharoah were guests on Weekend Update on a regular basis, while Pharoah did impressions of Eddie Murphy, Will Smith, Chris Rock and Jay-Z, he was also the go-to President Obama. So in POTUS’s last season in office, SNL will have someone else in the Oval Office at 30 Rock.
Killam has been with SNL since 2010. He’s got one of those voices that is varied and great for multiple characters. He’s played everyone from Eminem to Liam Hemsworth and perhaps is best known for his 1860s newspaper critic, Jebidiah Atkinson on Weekend Update. He’s also played Donald Trump. I guess that means SNL has narrowed down their choice for president.
Uproxx interviewed Killam on his ouster. He was quoted as saying, “I had sort of had it in my head I would make this upcoming year my last year, but then heard they weren’t going to pick up my contract. I was never given a reason why, really.”
Could this be the first 2 in an exodus of SNL players?
